Race 5 - MAJESTIC HUSSAR (#3) returns from Erie, PA full of run and ready to battle this group of quality old timers. Two previous wins at Saratoga and a decent degree of back class grabbed my attention.
Away alertly, led by open lengths until engaged at the quarter pole, folded quickly and finished next to last.
Race 7 - BESSIE'S BOY (#7) shows up here for Wesley Ward with Frankie Dettori in the saddle. After yesterday's show, it would seem silly not support this red hot pair with a quick colt. I'll probably do some mix and matching with very sharp CINCO CHARLIE (#9) and Anthony Dutrow's BIG TROUBLE (#4). Tony seldom shows up unless his runner is well meant.
So, I bought win tickets on BESSIE'S BOY and BIG TROUBLE, then boxed all three in an exacta. BIG TROUBLE battled gamely down the stretch to win by nose at a nice 11-1. CINCO CHARLIE was a courageous third, BESSIE'S BOY was fried early.
Race 10 - DISCREET MARQ (#6) seems well prepped and on schedule to face top notch competition today. She'll be among the front runners but speed held alright yesterday.
Controlled the pace into the stretch, accelerated nicely before being nailed at the wire - third by a half length.
